Have a A-OPEN AX6BC motherboard with a PIII 450Mhz chip (slot 1)..

Whats the highest chip this can take??

Cheers.

It depends on what bios revision came with you board. You have a 440BX chipset (and originally, I don't think those were meant to go above P3 700 or 800 with 100MHZ Bus. If you update to the newest bios ( and refer to this chart ( you should be able to go up to any PIII Coppermine with 133MHZ Bus. I hope this info helps. Good Luck.

Cheers Ted!!

Have flashed the board (easy with Aopen boards), so its seems I can get a little more life out of the board..

Now I need to find a chip...(are these slot 1 chips harder to find now?)

Many, many thanks B-)

If I remember correctly, Intel discontinued the slot chips over a year ago, making them extremely hard to find. You might want to start with pricewatch.com, since there's an insane number of companies registered with them. I'm sure one of them is bound to have an old slot 1 laying around. Otherwise just try to find on ebay. Do yourself a favor though, don't buy ANYTHING Oem. Make sure you get a retail box one, even if it's used. A retail box processor is warrantied by Intel for 3 years. That way, even if it's damaged during shipping or you get a bum deal and it's bad, you still have that warranty. There is no Slot 1 P3 more than 3 years old, so you're still good by getting a retail box one =) If you found this post helpful please take the time to click below and let me know. Thanks.
