Someone gave me a old IBM PS2 286 and when it boots up - on the crt - in the upper left hand corner comes  what looks like a symbol of a key....  Now I know they have a key in the back to open the cabinet... It is open but I see nothing that comes from that that seems to trigger some sort of switch... Does anybody have any idea what that symbol means. I don't have any books, but as a cat... I'm curious... Thanks..

If there is a key on the front of your computer, that may be the keyboard lock, it could also mean the system is locked from any changes. have you tried to do anything on it? <p>Karl<br><a href=mailto:kb244@kb244.8m.com>kb244@kb244.8m.com</a><br><a href= </a><br>Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)<br>

A key icon at power-up on the PS/2 means that a security boot password has<br>been installed. The only way to fix this is to clear the embedded password.<br>To do this, you need to remove the Dalas clock chip and replace it, or monentarily<br>short it (I forget what pins).<br> <p> <br><a href=mailto: > </a><br><a href= Computer Systems & Networking Services</a><br>
