i'm not really up on the whole data recovery thing, but I would like to learn about it...

Does anybody know of any good documentation on the subject that can explain about where data goes when it is deleted etc, and how "deleted" data is still there etc etc?

Thanks in advance.

PS - Perhaps someone can answer one part...when you delete data, how is it that it is not deleted...and where does it go on the disk if the disk is showing lots of free space?

Speaking of FAT12 & 16, deleting a file modifies the name in the directory so the OS knows the entry spot is available and adds the beginning cluster number back to the available clusters in the FAT chain. And since it is a chain the clusters after the beginning one are also in the chain.
Nothing has touched the clusters doing the storage.
