Hi all,
I have an old DNS server "Bind version 4.9.7REL" that needs to be moved over to a new Windows NT 4.0 machine running Microsoft's DNS server.
Has anyone has experience moving over that particular version of BIND to another DNS server?
I will call the 'old' Bind server machine #1 and the 'new' MS DNS server machine #2.
I tried to make machine #2 a 'SECONDARY' DNS server to machine #1's primary. Then attempted to have the records transferred. I thought this would be the ideal way of moving over all of the records, but I could not get the new machine to access the old machine or transfer any of the records over.
I tried adding machine #2's IP Address to the access list on the named.boot file on machine #1 (i.e. XFRNETS 127.0.0.0 199.233.0.0), but still could not transfer over any of the records.
I want to try to avoid having to manually copy over ALL of the DNS records (there are plenty) from machine 1 to machine 2.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to make this go a bit more smoothly then it looks?
Many Thnx! I HATE BEING A NEWBIE!
