Hi,

I need to buy a new desktop for my freelance work. I want a PC powerful enough to comfortably run the latest version of Adobe Creative Suite. So I’ve decided to make the investment in a decent system that’s fairly fast (and a new/refurbished 19"-to-21"-inch monitor). To save money, I’d like to buy a computer that rather than being top of the range is second, third, etc for performance. I won’t need it for any gaming, just use of graphics-intensive packages, mainly InDesign Photoshop, Illustrator, and strong on multitasking. But I’m finding it a bit of a minefield choosing the numerous components. I’ve been told that Intel quad pro is a good bet. I want a decent graphics card, but not overkill for my requirements (what are the benefits of getting two video cards?). RAM, think I’ll go for 4GB or 8GB. 1TB hard drive should be ample. Is “overclockable” worth including for this, and is it useful to spend more on USB 3.0 at this point? Good to include extra cooling fans for a system of this capacity?

If anybody can tell me of a specific system that would fit my needs, that would be helpful as I can look at the spec and find comparables. Lastly, do you think it is better to customise the build above myself or just buy an off-the-shelf unit?

Many thanks for any help with this,
Sam

Ok, one thing I'd recomeded (I leave the PC to more knoweledgable people) is go for a dual monitor setup.
Have one decent large monitor and a smaller (15" ish) one. On this you can stick your tools, previews etc etc.
You'll wonder how you lived without it after a while.

Yeah, so not a real heavy duty machine after all. I'd stress graphics and RAM over processor.
