I have attained all my certifications through self study. Pick up a couple of books and a wealth of resources on the Net.
Certification has become BIG business and there are more than enough people willing to take your money. Think long and hard before you shell out money for IT training. Do your homework and research on the training provider. Talk to former students, if possible.
A+ and Net+ courses should be around $1000 + depending on where you live or want to take the course and what is included.
You are FAR better off taking a course at a community college for computer hardware and learning everything there then checking out a few books to tune up for the tests.
You will learn more that way and be better able to handle technical issues in the field. CJ
I like glister's idea better. I used self-study for A+ and am currently studying for Network+.
As for the experience, why not get paid to learn the computers? Once you get your certification (and have practiced on your own system), look for a job with a local computer shop. Offer to work for minimum wage (or even FREE for a couple weeks). This is better than paying for experience!
