I am not able to view any of the web sites running applets,I don't really understand what the problem is.Everytime i go to a applet enabled site, the web site comes up and then Netscape goes down .Is it a flaw with the netscape version of Linux.Netscape ver 4.5 for Linux

Is it always the same site? Netscape does have problems with Java. It tends to get very resource hungry, and it might be this that is crashing your browser. (How much RAM and swap space do you have?) You might want to try upgrading to Netscape 4.7 to see if it makes any difference. Alternatively, try using Mozilla and see if that helps.

--
Any site with java applets running is not accessible.Any way the swap space amount is approx 1 GB and the RAm is 128 MB

The first thing I would do, then, is to uninstall your current version of Netscape, and then install V4.7. See if that fixes the problem.

A quick note on the swap space you've got... There are a few rules of thumb for calculating swap space, all using various multiples of the amount of RAM you have installed. I've heard values of 1.5, 2, and 2.5 times the amount of RAM.

I tend to use a value of 2.5 times the amount of RAM. For you, this would give a swap space size of 320Mb. This is enough to page out the entire contents of your RAM to disk twice over, with some space left for actual swapping. At the moment, it is extremely unlikely you would ever hit this kind of paging level in general day to day use. So, having swap space of about 1Gb is a bit excessive, and a waste of space. You will also be wasting some RAM as well, because the kernel has to keep track of 1Gb of swap space, instead of just 320Mb.

--
no, I am sorry . The swap space at present is just 400 MB and the RAM is 128 MB .Trying to install Netscape 4.7 is not helping the cause. It is giving the same problem.I am experiencing the same problem in all my Linux machine! sounds a bit unusual as well as crazy

It does sound very strange. I've used Navigator on various versions of Linux without any of the problems you describe. I have had bad performance, random crashes, and strange 1 pixel sized windows rapidly spawning, but no Java problems.

Which version of Linux are you running? And what is the file name of the Navigator 4.7 you are installing? I'm wondering if maybe there is a library problem going on, as Navigator is available in libc and glibc versions.

--
no, I have reverted to the older version of Netscape which is built in with RH Linux 6.0
The Netscape browser is built in the Linux o/s and gets automatically installed on installing Linux
