Fans of the "A List Apart" webzine (if you're not a fan, you should be!) may have noticed that it's gone pretty quiet over the last few weeks.

Now we know why.

It's just been relaunched with a "New design. New structure. New server. New publishing system", and two new articles to boot! Point your browser at to take a look...

I'm a fan. I'm really curious why don't you like the new design?

Maybe "don't like" was a bit strong. I just don't think it's very original. Then again, who am I to criticise? It's personal opinion.

As a web page design it works ok. However don't you think it looks a bit "samey"? There's like this Wordpress/TextPattern feel that so, so, so many sites seem to be adopting recently.

The illustrations go some way to giving the pages a bit of lift though.

Also, it feels a bit "loose" since there is no defining edge to the content area even though it's a fixed width layout. The content just sort of floats there in a number of slightly disjointed boxes.

The UI execution and graphics are good though and the IA is pretty spot on.

Sure. But I care about your opinion, that's why I asked.

I couldn't agree more. It's not that it's bad. It's just too much of the same thing. Too many sites like that, too many imitations. Just seems a bit boring to me. Again, it's just my opinion. Good to know that I'm not the only one that feels that way.

Oh, that's supposed to mean "free", I guess as opposed to structured.
