Hi everyone.
Got a little thing to ask, i'm gonna try and set up my windows system at home to always be connected to the internet (free cals of course) through AOL.
-- I don't think AOL do a linux version??
The reason i want to do this is so i have access to my linux box back at home while i'm at work.
Understandably, i will not have a static IP address, and if i get cut off i need a way to connect it back up without me going home.
So, here's my plan. My question to you guys, is, "is this the best way of doing it? is there something out there? and WILL IT WORK? "
home:
Linux -networked- Windows2000 -internet- AOL
then:
linux tells windows to conect (or windows does it on its own) to AOL. Then goes to a homepage which loggs IP address on some free website hosting company.
(can windows pass port connections to another machine? if i want to set up a webserver, interne connections go to port 80 on windows, can i pass this connection to talk to apache?)
work:
connect through wherever it goes, conects to the page i set up to provide a link to my windows machine.
this means i can access my machine for perl scripting and connect to the intranet at home in affect???
Hope someone can clear this up. it's early, and i just started work, so if it's not very clear, i'll try and rephraze. he he.
Thanks for any help!!!!
karlb!
