Couple quick questions as I finally got off my lazy butt and started studying for the first of 2 tests.

How much - if at all, do you see the beginnings of the computer - Abacus, IBM, etc. and converting decimal to binary - or the opposite equal value on the test?

In other words - should I study this portion for the interest I do have - and the info to keep in the back of my mind - or study for the requirement to keep the info in the front of my mind also.

whoops forgot to throw hex into the mix also.

About the only computer math you will see is:

SCSI IDs
o Jumper block/DIP switch settings (binary equivalents)

but any tech worth his salt should know how to do binary to hex conversions.

schase,

I took both A+ tests just last month. There was no math on the test, and other than knowing specifics about PentiumIII and higher CPU's (cache sizes, address and memory bus widths), you're probably not going to see anything that's too machine specific.

If you have a fascination with historical computers, such as Babbage's gear computer or Jacquard's loom, these are things unlikely to appear on any certification test.

Youll find more Binery and hex math on the Network +, you are getting that too...right?

I hate the number stuff, its so boring for me. I had a hard time with that part of the course. Still got a great score.
