First an original system description this might bear on the issue.
Drive C Dual boot ME and XP, ME system SATA RAID 1 80 GB
Drive D Storage Raid 1 80 GB
Drive E Win XP pro corp. Raid 1 80 GB
Drive F Storage IDE 40 GB
Drive G Storage IDE 40 GB
All drives are ATA 133
DVD rom and CD writers are scci.
The MBO has build in SATA and IDE raid controllers.
As I still had 2 IDE channels left I installed another two 40 GB IDE drives. The first drive installed normally, the second drive however only showed 6.2 GB space running Fdisk. OK No problems. I used Maxblast and then it formated to 122 MB????? this obviously was nonsense. I booted in XP and and used Disk management, this formated the drive to its 40GB capacity as drive I but alas in NTSF. OK NOW THE MYSTERY STARTS. After booting up in ME I found that I had another unformated drive on line. I reformated from within ME and got another drive with the drive letter J. Well I filled this drive to capacity with stored files and went back to XP. Surprise I now had both drives showing up. I now filled the NTFS drive to capacity and went back to ME expecting that drive J was scrambled, not so. All files on J were correct and checked out ok with a binary comparisation. So what the hell goes on? I then disabled all the other 9 drives and only left the mystery drive on line. The Cmoss showed the correct 41.1113 Gb as it should. I installed Win ME to this drive from Cd. No problems. I then Also installed XP on the same drive, again no problems, it identified NTFS and run normally. The mystery is the drive is, apart from the ROM, identical to the other 3 40GB drives,it is not partioned, Win XP only sees the NTFS drive, ME only sees the FAT32 drive, Cmoss only recognizes 40 GB. However I have now a total of 78 GB on the drive. Is is possible that a drive can write between the tracks? The drive in question is a Maxtor 6E040LO. Incidently Fdisk now crashes if I try to acces the drive. Please advise, I really like to find out what is going on. Greetings Jurgen
