Hi

Im a little desperate here:

I have a work-related web site I need to update, but, 1: I cannot SEE my website in the browsers on my machine and Dreamweaver cannot connect to the FTP server.
Something is blocking FTP here. I can see my page using free proxy servers so ...

This just happened, the sites been working fine before...

Please help!

This is very unrelated to Dreamweaver, but,
Try pinging the site first, should give you an idea of what's wrong.

Pinging the website by name should let you see what your DNS's are converting the name to. Compare it to the actual IP address of your site.

Second if you can connect by proxy, it may be DNS issue on your machine or network. Check those settings. Try connecting to another network and see if you can open the website from there. It can be something as simple as a free Wifi from Starbucks or something similar, just to rule out your machine.

Thanx, but pinging replies with: ping: cannot resolve mywebsite.com: Unknown host.

What do you mean by connecting to another network? (sorry, I'm am not a pro...)

I use a mac with airport web-connection...

You are connected to your network, either at home or at the office. Those are networks.

If you go out and connect to Starbucks free wifi that's another network.

If you use the complimentary wifi in a Hotel room, that's a another network.

Thanx, but pinging replies with: ping: cannot resolve mywebsite.com: Unknown host.

Looks like a DNS issue to me. To make sure, connect to a different network than the one you are currently on.

If it still can't connect then the DNS issue is with your computer. If you can connect to your website while on a different network, then the problem is with your Wifi network.

In which case you'll either have to check your Router's settings, or call your Internet Service Provider and have them take a look.

Nope, tried on another network, and still couldnt connect to host or view site. It MUST be some little config on my mac.. :( Any suggestions?

Check you DNS settings.

Make sure they match those provided by your Internet Service Provider.

Alternatively you can use a pair of these free ones, and manually enter them there.

Google, or OpenDNS are pretty good.

When I try to find my DNS-server through Terminal I get:
"cat /etc/resolv.conf.
cat: /etc/resolv.conf.: No such file or directory"

WHAT is going on?

That tells me there's no DNS resolv.conf being created, probably because there is no information being provided by the router.

Add one of the DNS's I posted above to the TCP/IP configuration.

Then maybe you could help me with ONE more thing :)
NOW DW insist my login info is wrong, which it isn't.
A google search shows others with similar problems but no solutions. What could THIS be? I've run disc repair in disc utilitites twice AND keychain first aid.

Come on, I know you know this! You were the ONLY one on five forums that solved my first problem ;)

What's the exact error message?

Alternatively have you tried with a third part FTP client, just to make sure.

God darnit! Neither Fetch nor Filezilla will connect either...

What is the error Filezilla and/or Fetch produce?
Any firewalls that may be preventing the connection?

Does it do the same if you are connected to a different network like before?

Heres one of several sites where people have the same problem, but no solutions.

Dreamweaver gives me: "FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host.
Your login or password is incorrect. Please check your connection information"

Fetch and FileZilla similarly "wrong password".

On different networks yes... :(

I'm not sure what it could be. Other than an actual wrong password. Perhaps a different method of access, like SFTP (Secure FTP) or some other such setting might make it work.

It's def the right pasword, all that is confirmed with my host. I've tried SFTP, but I dont get why both DW, Fetch and Filezilla gives me error messages. Firewall is off, passive FTP etc...

Please help me! :(
