I have an opportunity to get involved with MQ.
I have a few very simple high level questions I hope someboy wouldn't mind answering regarding MQ and Websphere.

Is the MQ Broker part of Websphere or are they essentially the same thing?

Must Webspere always sit on an IBM platform ( eg AS400 ) or can it sit on something else as well?

Must the MQ Broker always sit on an IBM platform ( eg AS400 )?

I have heard that each message passed through MQ Broker can execute a set of formatting step programs. Is there a specific language you have to use or is it just a case of using any compiled program type ( .NET, VB6, Java etc ).

Dazed and confused

WebSphere is just a brand name, there are more than 30 products under the WebSphere brand name, products like:
MQSeries
Message Broker
Application Server
Process Server
Enterprise Service Buse
Service registry and Repository
AND SO THE LIST GOES ON
Yes , the Broker is part of the WebSphere product Suite and has it unique functionality.
Nope, WebSphere can run on 80 platforms
None of the WebSphere HAS to SIT in IBM platform
Msgflows can be written in ESQL and I understand lately that Java can be used as well.
