We have a brand new Windows XP workstation running the Netware 5.5 client on a Netware 5.0 network. When the user logs into the network and tries accessing the A:\ drive the following message is displayed.

"A:\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be a hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the internet or your network, and then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location."

If I log into the Workstation Only the A:\ drive works normally. We also have Windows 98 clients on the network that do not have this problem.

Any ideas why this might be happening?
Thanks

Please clarify client version as the latest Novell Client for Windows XP is v4.83 SP1.

Can the workstation boot to DOS if you use a DOS boot disk? This will eliminate the floppy disk as the problem. -----------------------------------------------------

I apologize for the confusion. The Groupwise client is v5.5. The Novell Client is version 4.83

I've pretty much eliminated the floppy drive itself as being the problem. It will read from a flloppy when booting and like I said the floppy drive functions normally when logging into the workstation only. It's only when logging on to the network that the problem occurs.

Thanks,
Bill
