A drawing error occurred 1

This is an issue with Adobe Reader 7.0.5. We use a Xerox all in one to scan a set of documents, which are then emailed from the machine to a specific account. Occasionally a document will display the error message "A drawing error occurred", you are presented with only an OK option, then for example 3 out of 4 pages will display, while the 4th page will be blank. In the adobe forums, it was suggested to make changes to the color managment section of the preferences, however in the free Reader version, those options don't exist. One suggestion was to download the color profiles, which I tried, but that didn't solve the problem, nor did it present the color management preferences. Does anyone know what might solve this issue? When you try to open the same file with Reader 5, the error message changes to "insuffient data for an image". It's not an insurmountable issue, but it's quite aggravating to the users.

What application are you using to create the pdfs and on what platform? It's more likely that the problem is with the app that's generating the pdf than Reader.

It's being created on a Xerox M20i, an all-in-one printer. It scans the hard copy, converts it to PDF or TIFF, then emails it.

My guess is that the Xerox software that's creating the pdf's is somewhat screwed up. You might look at Zerox's support site for updates to drivers/software if you've made any changes to your computer's. Or you could contact Xerox support.

Reader just opens pdfs. If the pdf does not conform to the pdf standard, you get error messages.

The only way that I know to check where the problem lies is if you have access to a Mac osx machine. If yes, you could open the Xerox generated pdfs in Preview and see what you get. That's the only other pdf reader that I know of - besides Adobe Reader.

The problem being with the Xerox machine is one of the possiblities, and may be half of the problem, because it is random, it doesn't happen with every scan. But I took my test document and opened it in a different PDF viewer, I used one by a company called foxit, and was able to open my test doc and view the page that the error was occuring on. In some of the adobe forums, I found mention of some configuration changes to the reader that had to do with color management that solved the problem, but apparently those options only exist in the pro version, not in the free reader version. I realize I could probably just download a different PDF viewer and solve the problem, but at this point I am shooting to try and understand exactly what the cause of the problem is.
