I have a three node WAN. I have a Citrix server on one of those nodes. Every now and then I get one of the following messages when a user tries to connect from the same node that the citrix server is located on:

Error 1030:protocol Driver Error
-or-
No route to the specified subnet exists

Like I said I only receive this on the local WAN segment. I also sometimes get a mysterious error in Event Viewer that says Error 1003 and nothing else.

Thanks in advance for any help

The generic 1030 Protocol driver message simply means that the client cannot find the server. This may be due to DNS settings, or Citrix client settings.

If you can ping the Citrix server, then there is a name resolution issue. Check that the DNS server has a reverse lookup entry for the Citrix server.

If your Citrix server is multi-homed, then that will also cause issues - ICA broadcasts on only one subnet from each Citrix server unless an ICA gateway has been setup. In this case, it would only communicate with other Citrix servers on different subnets.

Try adding the IP address of the Citrix server to the Server Location field in the client.

I hope this helps
