hello all,
I've recently run accross a very wierd problem. I have a server at one particular site that regularly crashes once a day, so they tell me. I sent the abend log to Novell's automated database and received word that they have no clue. Has anyone seen this message?
Abend Message: INVALID OPCODE PROCESSOR EXCEPTION
Additional Information:
The hardware detected a problem while executing an interrupt service routine. The code being executed is owned by SERVER.NLM. It may be the source of the problem or there may have been a memory corruption.
Also, when the machine is brought back up, the volume logs show that the size of the TTS Que files have been changed.
I'm not sure if the two problems are related. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

What version of NetWare 4 are you running and with what Service Pack? Do you have anything else running on the server (eg. Groupwise)? -----------------------------------------------------

Page Faults and Invalid Op Code errors are usually generated by buggy software. NMI faults are usually caused by hardware. Check that any NLMs that you have running are up-to-date and you have applied any patches/service packs applicable.

We are running Netware 4.11 with no service packs. Background processes are Que printing and Pearl scripting. We run a proprietary dBase V DOS application that is stored on the server along with the all databases. The application is a POS for quick serve restaurants and tends to be somewhat buggy at times. Could a client software app cause a fault in Server.NLM as the abend log suggests? We are also getting software to do testing on the hardware at this location to rule out that possibility. Thanks for your help,

What does the abend.log actually say? Ususally there is some long description and it will tell what other NLMs are involved. Susan Hebel, MASE, CNE

The TTS are expected when there is an abnormal end and the system reboots with out dismounting the volumes. So you two issues are indirectly related. The Abend is not caused by the TTL error, and the TTL error is not caused by what makes the server abend. They just happen because the volume was not dismounting and anything in cache was not written to disk.

Also, if swappin CPU and RAM does not solve the issue, you may need to do a core dump. If your DOS partition does not have enough room (it will be the same size as RAM in bits, not bytes or KB), just slap in a hard drive with a DOS partition to get it.

If you belive it's related to a workstation, slap a packet trace on the network and wait for the abend to happen again. Brent Schmidt CNE,Network + [atom]

BK,
You say there are NO service packs installed?!. I guess the first thing you would be told by Novell would be to install Service Pack 9 and see if the problem still occurs.
