hello everybody on the forum,

i am Sam -samarendra banerjee from Bangalore (India),
after working for four years in resource management as a engineer (resources and requirement) and quality control(iso9002 implementation)in a engineering firm i have got a chance to work as a elicitor and requirement manager in a mid sized software firm in my place where rational unified process is being implemented.as my job overview i have to freqently elicit customers and deatil, manage, requirements in requisite pro.

i have only six months coding experience in vb6 & sql.

how do you all see this carrer in the future?

will overseas oppurtunities open up?
everybody is predicting that requirement analysis will be a very useful field in the years to come.
but i seldom see a job advertisement in this field back at my place atleast.

what is the situation at your place?

hoping that i will make some good frienda in this forum.

keep in touch.

with love and regards
samarendra

Samarendra:

I think that Requirements Management will be an emerging field in the next several years.

Its a real gaping hole in the Software Life Cycle thats need filling if we are to deliver quality software in a timely fashion. The industry doesn't have a good track record here. Largely because most orgs. dont know how to manage requirements.

Knowledge of Requirements gathering and a processs such as RUP or CMM, while not advertised, when put on your resume it is like honey to a bee.

I would look for a firm in Banalore such as Wypro or IT Solutions. One that does a lot of offshore consulting. Spend some time with them and try to get to US on 1B or H1. There is much talk about using offshore (India) for development here in the States. It is a viable alternative. I worked with offshore projects for three years and have my own opinions about its validity.

Don't leave hard skills such as coding behind, keep current.

Namaste,
Ivan In not now, when?
If not here, where?
If not us, who?

Just do it!!
