Hi,

When pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del in XP Pro with SP2, a number of alerts are fired in the background. The title is either ODB or SVC and the message is "A Call to an OS function failed".

Anyone any idea where this comes from?

Thanks!

Have you checked your machine for malware infection?

A lot of Google hits mention this as a possibility.

If your machine is clean, perhaps you can isolate a badly written piece of programming.

Try from Safe Mode first, and then proceed via this article in Normal Mode.

Hi Linney,

Thanks for your reply.
Am working with my AV supplier to make sure we can exclude an infection.
Hadn't thought of msconfig. Will see if I can get something from it.
