I'm trying to convert a clients Access 97 db to Access 2000 (from a 2002 application). For a particular table I'm getting errors in the Conversion Error table stating "Cannot Find Description". I checked the original 97 version of the table and couldn't find a field called "Description". I also checked the record count and have the same number of records. Before I begin a detailed analysis of this table and charge my client for the time, are there any suggestions as to what the problem might be? I'm thinking maybe Access is checking queries and found that an old, unused query, has "Description" in the QBE, which in this case could be a deleted field from the table. I'm not totally sure. Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Hi

1) have you tried compiling the app in Access97 to ensure it has clean compile before you start conversion?

2) why not try converting the code/screens etc as a front end, and leave tables in A97, then try converting the tables

Thats pretty Cool Remou.... I don't remember saying that, but it sounds like something I'd say. LOL.... Merry Christmas to you too...

Ken. This db has lots of probs. I'm the second developer to touch it and it has absolutley NO code. Its all bound forms and TONS of queries, thus, this is why I'm working on it. I tried to compact and repair and it told me I had to convert, when I tried to convert, it told me I had to compact and repair... DOH! When I tried to compile, I got an error saying "Access failed to initialize the VBA window" then it crashed, then it wanted to send a nice letter to Bill Gates telling him how perfect the app is... LOL...

Actually, was able to successfully convert it to 2k accept for the issues with the one table, the most important one of coarse. I'm just trying to track down the error and ensure my data is intact. Too many records to check one by one.

I'm still open to suggestions/solutions.

Thanks all... and Merry Christmas, or happy whatever...

Crusty,
I am not sure this can be done but..
Did you try to import all the objects/relationship & menu to a new shell db in acces 2000/2002?

ZmrAbdulla,

Yes, when I tried that, it told me "Record has been deleted" which scared the **** out of me at first, until I rechecked the record count and found it unchanged. I'm afraid I'm just going to have to do this the hard way, one by one. I'm going to run some queries to check field by field, however, the master table has about 50 fields... OUCH!!! Thats going to take a while... again... I'm still open to suggestions/solutions.

Probably a silly suggestion, but would it be worth copying the table to text and re-importing?

I haven't actually tried that one. I'll have to give that a shot.

I'll let you know what happens.
