9650 IP Phones - Buttons Disappearing

I posted the referenced thread in 2009 but did not have any hits. The problem is transfer/hold buttons are not always available on a call. I did find today though that if I press the "PHONE" button on the 9650, the buttons will appear. Don't know if that will always work, but was excited it did...however, is this to be expected?

it's very frustrating, so i thank you for posting the 'hit the phone button' work-around, i'll try that next time instead of rebooting the phone. i've also seen 9650's lose all of their programmed 'hard' buttons, except the 3 call appearances. gimme a 46XX set any day, way fewer issues. don't even go near 9608's or 9611's, complete disaster!
