Hi

We have recently deployed 9630 handsets. Most of the handsets are confiugred as hot desks this was achived by giving the extension configuration an extension number however these extension do not have users assioated. When a user logs into the phone it works well, User gets the "retrevial sucessful" and then the screensaver works and the backlight timeout dims the screen ok. When the extension is logged out the screensaver no longer works nor does the backlight timeout. We have also noticed that if the phone is restarted it displays "retrevial failed". Is this normal behaviour of these phones. I really do not understand why when the handset is logged out things like this stop.

By default the IP Office system is storing user data for each user extension number that uses a 9600 Series phone. That data include things like backlight settings. That data is restored when a user logs on to the phone and saved again when they log off.

Unfortunately it doesn't work for the phone when their is no user logged in. Of the top of my head the only way around would to have a dummy user for each phone. Create them linked to a User Rights template for logged off phones very similar to the NoUser user (ie. set to things like outgoing call bar and only a login button).

If you want to dig deeper then try to spot what file it requests before the "retrivial failed" occurs. You can manually create a file and put it on the systems memory card. See the IP Office H323 IP Phone Installation Manual.
