9611g suddenly stuck in reboot loop

Running 8.1.67 and this morning found a 9611g in a constant reboot loop. I tried to run a self-test on the phone, but when I press 'test' to confirm it never actually runs the test procedure, just stays on the same screen. Do these phones have a known history of crapping out like this?

I would try to upgrade it and see what happens then.
This is the one that it should have: S9608_11HALBR6_2_2_09U_V452.tar
