I have several remote 9608 phones using their internal VPN to access our IP Office. Everything with the phones works great across the VPN. However, I'm having trouble pushing new settings and firmware through the VPN.

When the phone is restarting/booting it builds the tunnel successfully. Then it trys to access the 96xHupgrade.txt file (or the 46xxsettings.txt since it is referred to in the 96x file). Then it moves on and logs into the IP Office and extension. In the firewall, I can see the IPsec traffic from the remote phone to the HTTP server occur. But the phone returns "HTTP: 1 0" vs "HTTP 1 200" as it should. This occurs both inside the office and out (our VPN's will work from the LAN as well). If I "disable" the VPN it will pick up the settings on the next restart.

What am I missing here?

HTTP 0 even though not a valid code usually means that the connection timed out.

Can the HTTP server reach the VPN network?

Perhaps the phone tries to connect to HTTP server at the voice interface of IPO but is only available to each the data side?

You can set NVHTTPSRV in 46xxsettings.txt for VPN phones.

janni78, thanks. When I tried to ping the phone in VPN mode, I couldn't. This turned out to be the Gateway setting on the HTTP server. It was pointing to an internal LAN router not the VPN appliance.

Check the setting I mentioned. That HTTP server is used after VPN is connected.
