I am trying to setup remote extensions for some 9608 phones. IP Office 8.1. H323 enabled in Lan1 VoiP tab. Gateway is that of my router.

Router has ports 1719 and 1720 plus the listed ports in the RTP ports all forwarded to the IP office (49152 thru 53246)

When I connect the phone, I see things happening in the monitor app, but the following just keeps appearing:

Any ideas where else I can turn to resolve this?

Sorry, forgot to mention the issue ! Just shows Discover, and the IP address on the phone. DHCP grabs the IP from the router fine, and I specify the call server as my IP address.

9608? I thought they don't work because they can't do NAT properly.

There are 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't

The public address you have pointed to the IPO LAN Ip address, did you enter it into the "Public Address" field within LAN1 then Network topology?

What kind of router do you have on the IPO side?

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

I did enter it in public address. We are using an untangle server. But I tried it direct connected to the T1 line, and with a linksys WRT54G in the middle.

if you have all the prot forwarding configured correctly then the NAT traversal should work with 9608s
however my experience has been that it is very dependent on the routers at both sites & the ISP ( Virgin Media block some of the ports on their network so are unusable & newer Sky routers also cause problems to name a few)

wherever possible I would suggest the customer would be better of with a decent VPN solution (surely the user of the remote phone will also be wanting to connect their laptop as well)

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

What IPGuru said. Avaya still has some work to do on the remote phones thru port forwarding.
From my experience you need certain firewalls/routers on both sides of connection.
for example.
I have a netgear fvx3387 on system side with all port forwarding needed and a netgear fvs114 at phone end and all works great. If I use a lynksys WRT54G or E3400 at phone side I can register but have no audio.

I have tetsted this with Samsung remote phones on an OS7400 and have no problems at all with the Linksys routers.

Try this; get a small cheap PC, download and install untangle, create a point to point VPN tunnel between both Linux boxes, make sure you can ping the IP Office from the remote site. Setup your 9608 as a local device on your LAN and you should be good to go. If remember correctly I think you can even turn QoS somewhere in untangle.
