9508 Firmware Upgrade fails on some phones since upgrade to 8.44 1

We have (4) 9508 phones shich will not complete firmware upgrade since installing ver 8.44. We had been at version 7.x.
I set up the download location to be manager, after failing several times using the SD card as the source.
Monitor log shows:

All other 9508 sets on Combo Cards and (2) Dig Sta 8 upgraded successfully

Do those phones reboot and start all over again?
I have seen this happening.
Try a reboot of the IPO.
Try to put the phone on a port with an already working phone.
When it boots but not upgrades then it id a broken phone.

The phones do not reboot just hang when they get to 176 kb of download. The screen displays "invalid fwimage" when it hangs:
Should the fw upgrade include any files other than the 9500R.38 bin?

I've jacked the sets directly into the IPO for the following tests and rebooting often:

New 9508 sets:
After a reboot, in the ports that are not upgrading, same result hangs at 176 Kb download.

Used known working ports using the sets that won't upgrade:
In this instance, the phones just stalled didn't download firmware at all.


The box has 2 combo cards with an ATM on each, and 2 digital station 8 cards. One with an ATM and the other with nothing.

What's weird is that only 4/28 phones failed to upgrade.
I'll give that a try.

Seen this before, you need to reboot the system then plug the phones into one of the DS8 cards. I have has quite a few handsets that get this exact symptom when upgrading from a combi card, you will find it did't upgrade of the DS8 before as they only upgrade 1 set at a time until the system is rebooted, so do that and you are good to go

Thanks all. amriddle01 had it right, thanks again amriddle01. Four ports on two combo-card were not upgrading their 9508 sets. Jacking them into a digital station 8, after a reboot, allowed them to upgrade. I'll ask the BP to RMA the combo cards that came with this unit. Don't want to be running back every time we upgrade the release.

No problem, you'll find the same issue with 14xx phones too, it's not just 95xx
