9508 Distored Audio

Analogue Lines
9508 Distorts when user speaks loudly, distortion heard on both ends. If user speaks softly then no distortion. Happens on all 9508 phones.

System has both 9508 and 9608 phones but the distortion does not happen on the IP phones, olny with the digital.

Any ideas?
 
Try disabling the auto gain control on the phones.

I have the same issue. Messed with AGC like we had to in previous versions for speakerphone and still no luck. Just curious, is the problem on outside calls over analog trunks?

Yes, the problem is with outside calls over analog trunks.
 
I had the same problem on my first install with 9508's. My support told me there is a known issue about this and that Avaya has published a notice instructing to turn off gains and echo cancellation at each set. I had done that with marginal results. That is my story.
 
FWIW, we've multiple occurances of this issue on 9508 installs, almost ALL of these installs with PRI (which removes possible issues with analog line gain from the equation).

These phones are crap right now... back in 7.0.23, turning off the AGC on the speakerphone actually solved the problem. Under R8, nothing solves the problem, except replacing the phone with a 14XX.

Add to this the fact that if the 9508 is attached to a BM12 it will spend half its sorry life locked up, and you've got a bunch of reasons not to sell or install these right now.

Turning off AGC makes the sound worse!

Since these are analoge lines will adjusting the gain on those make a difference? Right lines are at 6.0db and 3.0db.
 
Try changing gains to 0db and 0db or try 0db and -3db to see if that helps.
