Hello,
trying to startup BCM 400 3.6. When I try to change the start DN to 9600 I get a dialog box telling me this. This is thru the quick install wizard.
Invalid selection: 9406 is the largest possible 4 digit Start DN. 9600 is the start of the DID range.
Darren,

acewarlock,
I haven't done it yet. Thought I could do that after I ran the setup wizard. I also tried to use 3 digit DN's starting with 600 and got the same message saying 406 was the largest possible 3 digit start DN.
Darren,

Do you have a 4x16 card in it,I had the same trouble on a 3.5 and i started it at what the message said and then i changed the dns after i ran the wizard. It had somethink to do with unseen numbers???? I will look at my notes when i get to the office. Like ace said on the 9 access code. But my 4x16 card really messes thinks up...

Justatec,
I don't have a 4x16 in the BCM.I have a DSM 32+ ,digital trunk interface, GATM8, and ASM8 installed in it.
Darren,

HI MJS

It is because the both numbers will conflict with the digit 9 as ace has stated above. Your best way to get around this problem is to set up the system using the default extension range 4 digit or 3 digit. Then under the wizard parameter renumber your extension range. If you want the digit 9 you will need to remove it from your line pool.

I took the 9 out of the access codes. Still doing the same thing. Tried 3 digit starting with 600 and it does the same thing. Only difference is the message (406 is the largest possible 3 digit start DN).
Darren,

i did not have a chance to try on a bcm ...on a norstar
it does something similar.

Here is my decoding of it:
When you run a startup the system builds DNs for the max capacity of the system
it is counting 484 numbers(in norstar) from the start DN, and if it runs out of numbers it gives the error message

Start from a lower number and renumber to the required values

senk1s,
That is exactly what I did. Just a real pain having to change all the DN's to the ones that are what are requested. Is there a way to change many DN's at once on a BCM?
Thanks for all the help to everyone on this.
Darren,

ACE and JUSTATECH are right start at that number given let the wizard set it up then go back and change the dns,Thats why i always number my blocks with the port numbers,Just in case of a set relocation is on or you change dns,It works but a pain....

Hi MJSD33

I set up a system with 900 range because this matched their DID range. The way I set it up was start the BCM with 200 as the first DN under the quick start wizard. Then when the system was finished I renumber the range by removing 9 from the line pool. I then opened the wizards section and selected extensions 200-299 using the basic windows commnads shift and control key etc.I set the new extension DN to 900. The system will renumber all of the extensions from 200-299 to 900 -999.This was OK for me because I had 100 extensions on this system. It will be a bit more of a pain if they want 900-999 but only have 32 extensions and they want 999 and 900 in the extension range.

Hope this makes sense

Marshall

you cannot start at the higher number because the BCM goes ahead and assigns the numbering plan using your start DN and then counting up by one until it assigns to all POSSIBLE B1 DN's B2 DN's VOIP DN's Hunt Group DN's etc...

This encompasses 594 DN's on your system. If you started any higher, then the DN's would roll up to a higher number of digits..

to wit 9600 + 594 = 10194 - As you can see, this makes the DN length now 5 digits.

So unfortunately, there is no way around this but to do a renumber, like everyone has suggested.
