9400 vs 9500 sets

Ok I must be missing something. What is the deal with 9400 series phones and 9500 series phones? Do they really make both? I don't see a difference.

9400 -> cm but do work on the ipo (2400)
9500 -> ipo but do not work on the cm (5400)

I still do not understand why Avaya does do this.

The reason they do it is for revenue recognition between the two depts within Avaya SME = IP500 ECG = Aura. If the handsets upset you I suggest oyu have a look at the B5800 gateway that will really make your blood boil ;-)

We knew that was coming, but the naming thing Avaya have started ......B123 this and B456 make sit sound like cheap tat and will lead to confusion

There's nothing new about this - this was the situation back in the Definity BCS versus Prologix days. The BCS version was the basic version and the Prologix was the full-featured model. Less expensive BCS circuit packs wouldn't work with the Prologix, but you could spend more and purchase a Prologix board and use it on the BCS. It was Enterprise versus General Business - artists versus hacks. It's sort of laughable to look back at it now but that's the way it was.

The Enterprise group was even upset that the classic ring tones in the Prologix (or "A" version software) were available on the BCS systems.

But now they finally realize that the ip500 is a good machine.
They build a 430 as gateway and i thought why?
Use the ip500 and they finally did.
