Ok so we have someone calling 911

Is the only option digging through Delta files to find the person, we dont have CCC.

I am at a loss, the person calls it, then hangs up on them...now the PD is mad, and threatening $$$$....

We have softconsole, is there any way to see the person who is calling, or ask them if they are sure they want to dial 911? We do have VM Pro. Could i build a menu?

Thanks in Advance

If you download the ADMIN file from avaya then you get the Delta Server for free, just install it an configure it.

The conventional advice is "don't"

I would not want to put *anything* between someone dialling 911/112/999 that may delay or prevent their connection to the emergency services.

>Is the only option digging through Delta files to find the person.

I'd use a call logger, but in essence, yes. Once you have your culprit, you can either retrain them to not dial 911/112/999 unless required or pass them to HR for them to deal with.

In short, this is a human (stupidity) issue and using technology to solve it won't work.

Another approach would be to send an email to all staff pointing out that abuse of the 911/112/999 system is a serious offence, but people who do accidently dial it *must* not hangup before they are connected. If they do, it triggers an emergency response, that could be better used elsewhere

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

easy solution, change the dialoutcode to 8.
I always thought that these people are really dumb like a sack of nails but after all these years of using a phone it happened to me, I dialed 91XXXX and I had the shakes when I hit the 1 and double tapped it but I noticed it and stayed on the phone and talked to the operator and explained my mistake and they were very understanding. But I have also customers that complain that they have 2-3 a week and that with 30 people in the office that is dumb and just gross negligant and should have some $$$ consequences and you could charge for making the changes to avoid it bu making the dialout code 8 and leave the 911 in as real emergency number and also 8-911 for people that are calling without panicking.
I can't believe we have this discussion again.

Hey Matt what is 112 in England?

It is not that hard to search the csv file

Just do a ctrl+f and search for 911 :)

>Hey Matt what is 112 in England?

112 is the european wide emergency contact number - if you dial it in the UK, it is exactly the same as dialling 999.

It is supposed to make access to the emergency services uniform over the entire EEC, but whilst implemented is really poorly advertised. I believe that dialling 112 also puts you through to a multilingual operator (but that may be wrong)

And as a side note, 112 breaks key lock on most mobile phones, 999 does not

I have to agree with Westi, we were having all kinds of trouble with 911 calls until we changed to dialoutcode 8.

It doesn't matter where you are; UK/US/etc stay on the line if you dial 911 and tell them it was a mistake.

Twist

===========================================
Everything will be OK in the end.
If it's not OK, then it's not the end

Of course if they had a sensible number like 999 instead of one that matches the most common dial out prefix and national/local numbers it wouldn't happen half as often :) I have never understood 911...say you were trapped in a building that was on fire and dark beacause of smoke etc you can easily find the 9 button and hit it three times, it just seems odd to make it harder by having it so far apart on the keypad.

^LOL!

Why not just use 01189998819991197253?

i remembered all of that off the top of my head, and havent watched that show for about 3 months. so its clearly catchy.

That should be the new international Emergency code.

Never argue with an idiot. bystanders won't be able to tell the difference.

Just for your information I had an analog phone with a splitter on it with one ide of it hanging on the ground (not in a phone) and it caused phone trouble. Not a big deal because that phone was only infrequently used. But... guess what the Sheriff came to tell us it was dialing 911 repeatedly. When I removed the splitter problems all went away AND the end of the cord looked like someone had put their bubblegum on it (they hadn't). Maybe you've got a bubblegum line out there.

112 sounds good, for all I care it could be done here too but then the 1 is for long distance and not 0 like in Europe it would confuse the hell out of people.
Tom what it that 0011889988.... number you had that for a while as your signature but I never figured out what it is.
I know I am a nosy bugger.

Westi

All number are 9 digits and have a 0 in form (then 10 digits)

Then if you want to dial then 0 0N
Ineternational (long distance) is 00 so then oyu need to dial 000N

When i pick up my home phone i have to dial an area code
For example 010 and 7 digits but really it is dialing a 0 and then area code 10

Dailing 112 means i dial instead of a 0 i dail a 1 and 12 behind it
112 is just dialing a different prefix with 12 after that :)

This is great, I had to pick myself off the floor after watching that.
Have a star for it even though it is not IPO related

you could probably watch the whole episode on there,

it was even funnier when a series later, once you had forgotten it they just through it back in.

suddenly doesnt seem like such a good idea

aerosome, sorry for highjacking the thread :)

Tom, I miss cable TV sometimes but they don't show that anyways and just do the American Idol crap (ualp)or other "reality" shows. So I download TV shows I want to see after they have been aired or from England (I loved Chef) but I get not enough info of what is good.
aerosome I also apologize and I am done for sure now praising Tom's great sense of humour and good taste in comedy.

but doing the 8 instead of the 9 to dial out would make the most sense for that, to come back to the topic.

LOL, no problem, the solution is a tack hammer to the idiots head....i think we are going to dial 8 to get outside line.....FFS, people suck....

BTW I dont mind the HiJacking, its really funny so its not considered HiJacking when i laugh!
