911 and VOIP phones

We are in the process of rolling out a new phone system with about 50% IP phones. What are people doing about 911. Presently we are in 3 buildings in the same town, but what if a user moves his/her phone from one building to another without the IT departments knowledge or if it is never documented and a emergency occurs. The 911 response will never reach the correct location? WHat do do?

What vendor VoIP are you using? I know Cisco has in their product a way for 911 calls to only go out local trunks, so that type of scenario does not create the issue you refer to. One option is not to allow people to move from one location to another; only within the same site.

I would ask your vendor that same question and see what their response is.

Don't centralize all your dial tone. Have a gateway or FXO portfor the router at the local site of the phone. Then in the dial plan route calls for digits 911 or 9911 to the local gateway.
Everyone, using VOIP, has worked on several solutions in the past few years.
 
I'm from the UK, so not sure how you system works (is this e911?). But to us it's no different from a direct isdn link between sites.
On our VoIP system it emails us that 999 has been diallied and sends us the user name & IP address back. We can then see where it originated from.
Most of the time we just need to shout at the culprits manager to get it sorted!
