911 and 9911

Hello,
I have a BCM50 R.6.0
I would like my system to dial a ten digit telephone number(Police) when 911 jor 9911 is dial in my system.

I am presently using SIP trunking and the e911 service.
A few days ago I needed to dial 911 through e911 and have been placed on queue for at least two minutes before my call was answered.
The result of this is that I would like to eliminate e911 and program my system to dial the ten digit number of my local 911 answering service.

I have read everything posted on 911 and 9911 but don't understand.

Can this be done.

My Voip lines are using Bloc A with 9 as an outgoing code.

Have you asked your 911 call center whether they will allow you to do this. 911 and e911 use multiple call centers and calls are routed to centers based on volume, not necessarily location.

Actually I don't have choice.
e911 sucks and I don't trust them anymore.
My city gave me the full length telephone number to reach 911 services instead of the three digit 911 number.

I would like for my family to be able to reach this ten digit number by dialing 911 or 9911 on the BCM.

You can add and/or delete digits when you create destination codes. So create a route if you don't already have one that points to your line pool. Make DC 911, absorb all, add your digits for the call center. You will have to make DC's for all other dialing to.

Can you tell me where I can find the paper work for this procedure.
I am not very good in call routing and destination codes.
It would be easier for me to follow the detailed procedure.

All manuals are stored on the system hard drive.

Just log in via a browser using the same IP address, user name and password as you would when using Element Manager. Look up routing.

Yes I did that aleady.
It still isn't clear to me.
All the absorbe stuff and wildcards...

It is complicated because i am using 9 for outgoing calls and dealing with the 9 in the 911 or 9911 number.

I thought a template was already available for these kind of issues.

Public Accounts Advanced Outbound called characters to absorb: 0

Where you able to configure the 911 and 9911 to dial a normal ten digit telephone number?

All those digits may cause an issue...

Try this first which is a better setup and test dialing out:
Dialing Plan\Routing/DestinationCodes/9/Absorb 0
Public Routing Table: CallOut 9 (and no other didgits) VoipMs
Public Accounts Advanced Outbound called characters to absorb: 1

If it works I would probably do this:

Dialing Plan\Routing/Route 009 use BlocA and dial external number of the cop shop
Dialing Plan\Routing/DestinationCodes/911/Absorb 0
Public Routing Table: CallOut 911 (and no other didgits) VoipMs
Public Accounts Advanced Outbound called characters to absorb: 3

Thanks alot for the explanation. I am quite good with the BCM features but when the time comes
to configure routes, I am just s**t.

I try to follow what you are telling me but just can't understand.

I have been told that it is very difficult to do what I am asking because I use 9 as an outgoing code.

I also need to keep in mind that I still want to be able to place outgoing calls.

If I configure a route to dial the cop shop when we dial 9,911 or simply 911 on the BCM, I still want to be able to
call lets say; 9,916-555-1212 for example.

That is probably where these absorbe 0 and absorbe 1 comes in handy!

You're going to need to build a sh!t load of destination codes

911 Absorb All Insert xxx-xxx-xxxx
9911 Absorb All Insert xxx-xxx-xxxx

All these will be Absorb 1 (the 9)

Routes are where calls point too such as PRI or Copper trunks etc and can include entering a phone number as well.

Dest codes tells the call which Route to use based on the digits entered such as 9
Absorb is the amount of the first digits entered that you dont want the carrier to see.
i.e Dest code of 9 would have Absorb 1 (or ALL of the Dest code)
1 would mean the first digit dialed (which is 9) will not be seen by the carrier.

You cant have 3 digit Dest codes and expect to dial somewhere else with a 2 digit Dest code
Soon as you dial 91 its expecting one more digit to completed the Dest code.
Exception is to use another leading digit such as 8 for all other calls i.e. 911 calls cop shop, 8 is for all other calls.

Since 91 is part of a Dest code is why you need to enter all those other ones that will allow you to dial other numbers that start with 91.
i.e
911 uses dials cop shop
912 uses Route 001
913 uses Route 002
etc etc

Does this make sense?

Now that the above makes sense here is when using SIP...

Dialing Plan\Routing/DestinationCodes/9/Absorb 0 <---change this from 1 to 0 and let the SIP account do the absorbing instead as mentioned below below
SIP Trunking\Public Routing Table: CallOut 9 (and no other didgits) VoipMs <-----this should be the same as your normal dest code such as 9 so remove all those digits
SIP Trunking\Public Accounts Advanced Outbound called characters to absorb: 1 <----make this absorb 1 , it will absorb the 9 mentioned above

The one thing to know if you are using Momitor to help in testing...
-in the normal dialing plan when you aborb digits you will not see the dest code as being dialed.
-in SIP Public/ Accounts /Advanced Outbound called characters to absorb 1 you will actually see the dest code as being dialed but in fact it will be absorbed.....odd Nortel programming perhaps.
