One way to do it would be through call-accounting/smdr computer. It's a computer that records all call records. Depending on what system you have for this, there might be a feature that will detect a 911 call and sends out some sms or other alert message to the appropriate staff.
Another possible way is to allocate 1 or 2 trunks in a separate route just for 911 calls, and make those trunks appear on a button of the phone of Front Desk or Secuurity staff (trunk line appearance). So if someone is making a 911 call, they see the appropriate button show red, indicating that somebody is on that trunk. ie making a 911 call. I've never done this myself, so I'm not sure if it really works this way, but could be something to try.
As for our system, I wrote an OAI app that rings a designated phone as soon as somebody gets on a 911 call, and once you press the blinking button, the phone shows you what station is on the call. However, you said you are not very NEC saavy, and I don't think this last one could be explained to you within this forum.
