Attempting to upgrade a Rolm Model 10 from 9005.2.79 bind to 9005.6.84 bind. Don't ask. Anyway get the .84 bind core image loaded, patched, system options installed. FINIT the system but cannot remember the steps to convert the CNFG volume to the correct version. Every attempt results in:

LOADING: CI_9005.6.84
VOLUME FOUND
INITIALIZING SYSTEM

DBLOAD FROM LOCAL (L)
OR OVERRIDE (O) (DEFAULT = 'L')?
ATTEMPTING TO MOUNT THE 'CNFG' VOLUME.
MOUNT OF CNFG WAS SUCCESSFUL.
L

CNFG VOL NOT CONVERTED, DATABASE LOAD WILL NOT OCCUR

At this point you cannot enter any commands. CNFG or anything else. Only recourse is using DISKTOOL and reloading the .79 bind core image and configuration volume.

There must be a missing step here or steps being done in the wrong sequence. I have not done one of these in over 10 years and cannot remember any tricks to get this completed. The software was sent without any paperwork which may have had the proper directions.
Anyone remember any steps or have the documentation on this?

All you need to do is copy the CNFG Vol to a new spot on the HD and name it the new release CNFG_9005.6.84.

In addition to copying the existing CNFG to the new volume you have to pick the "override" option when the system reboots. Then type CNFG and the system converts the databases at that time. We kept letting it default to "local" and that was the issue. Thanks Perry for the info.
