9.3 Sbspace problems

Having a problem with 9.3 and Sbspaces. When the application team does an upgrade (application), all the records are updated. The problem is that the Sbspace (user data area) is filling up with the update. The meta-data area is fine. This was never a problem with 9.21. Are new LOB's create in 9.3 as opposed to just being updated?

I'm using 9.30.UC3 on Sun Solaris. THANKS
