I have 3 DID cards in the TM in port 3 which worked fine before swapping out the 2-port expansion card for a 6-port expansion card, this is the only part swapped. (DR5.1)

After reprogramming tke KSU and setting the lines for DID/wink as before, I'm not getting the dialtone on the lines like I used to.

What might I have forgotten to set up or done wrong?

My module status for port 3 reads:
0 TCs on TM 3

If I look at the TC's, each says:
0 lines on TC X
(where 'X' is the TC)
Checking state on each TC typically says:
0 lines busy

Every so often it will say:
Unavailable

It's been a long day for me, these would be lines 009 to 020... right?

Thanks,

peter

If it is in the right port go into Maintenance and diable then re-enable the Mod.

The trunk module is plugged into the bottom port of the 6-port expansion card labelled "3". I've tried the disable/enable process a couple times.

For fun, I powered down and stuck in a Loop/DS card in the first slot and changed the definition for DID/wink to Loop/supr and it came back with:

4 lines on TC 0

but the two remaining DID cards were still 0. I've also tried changing the definition so Loop or E&M thinking it is just a little confused, but no luck there either. Also, with the TM's power unplugged, it just says Module 3 empty. So I'm reasonably assured I'm talking to the right port and such.

One thing that I remember from early on, I thought I had the TM unplugged when first trying to debug what's going on, I had pulled out the DID cards and reseated them. Might that have wrecked them? No bent pins on any of the connections either in the slots or on the copper plugs. Plugging in a spare 16X0 to port 3 of the expansion shows all 16 ports alive and kicking too.

When configuring the 009-020 lines, I'll configure #9 and then use the copy command for the other 11. Is that a safe thing to do?

Thanks again,

peter

Thank you very much. I'm back in business. The dialtone on the ports never sounded so good.

Where abouts did I miss the detail of port order? If I add another TM (can i?) would it need to go into port 7?

Being a techy-geek but fresh to phone systems, I would have thought that the expansion ports were on a bus and it wouldn't matter where devices are added to the bus.

I'll read up on the provisioning docs I have and see if I can get a handle on this.

Thanks again,

peter

TM from top to bottom.
SM from bottom to top.

it wouldnt except that the MAC address (~TN)of each port is fixed
i'm assuming u r a computer geek !!

if u move from a 2 p to 6p and want to retain the TN#s ...the top ports in both cases have teh same TNs

I can understand that. At some point I lost the config and reprogrammed it from scratch. Only took me 4 or 5 hours. <grin> Best part is that I learned some stuff along the way that I didn't learn the first time.

While I have this thread, I'm trying to add a new M0X16 (used, but new to me) which I have plugged into the now vacant port "3". I've Disable/Enabled the module slot under the Maint menu, but it never comes up with the ports being available. Is there another convention here I should try?

For reference, on port 4 is a live SM (M0X16) and the TM is in port 8.

Also, without the Nortel software, is there a way to dump/restore the config (I have a RAN and a password for it!)?

Thanks,

peter

if you mean RAD ...you can try getting the nru fromnortel website

try plugging in a phone to the wired station module nad that should bring it up...
make sure the fiber is secure and good on both ends

Go into Hardware and make sure the modual for port 3 is changed to a Station Mod. Because if you had a Trunk Mod in that port before then the system might be looking for that.

M0X16 is happy after plugging in a set that worked. the "worked" is an important part of testing new things.

NRU identifies my KSU as just Module 5 so I can't do the backup/restore/remote admin stuff. If I find a newer software card for the system, I lose my current config, right?

Was there a version of the NRU that could back up the config? More importantly, would that same config be restored onto a newer version of software? if not, I may just set aside a weekend to cut it clean from scratch and be done with it.

The only feature it seemed that worked with NRU 10 on the norstar was the phone interface. Does that match what should be expected?

Thanks all,

peter
