Does anyone remember if the 8X20 Merlin has a battery somewhere in it? This one has a (Feature Package 2)and the customer has to reprogram after every power failure..

(Upgrading their phone system to the 21st century,, not an option for them at this time!)

The battery is on the FP-2.

In the days when that first came out, if one went, shall we say crazy, we would reset it by shorting the battery out.

That's why, today, there is a strap on the battery circuit of the Legend and Magix.

Shorting out that little battery caused whatever you used to short it out to get VERY HOT !

merlinman,

Do you know if the battery in the FP-2 can be replaced?

Mike Higgins

I would assume anything can be replaced.

I am sure you can find one like it at some Batter Store, Batteries Plus comes to mind. You just have to solder it in.

If you take the FP-2 there, they can tell you if they can match it.

The trick to taking the FP-2 apart was it had interlocking tabs and you had to squeeze it just right. (I think, after all, it's been almost 20 years...)

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try..

Memory Backup Battery is 3.6Volt Ni-cad. I used to get these at triad-online.com for about $25, but that was several Years ago.
If You are creative, get a cordless phone battery ( one for MLC-5 works nice, around $6 at WalMart ) 3.6 Volt, cut off the plug, and solder it on the board. A nylon wire tie will keep it strapped down.

Hope this helps, Andre

Andrepa,

You are very resourceful!!
Thanks for the info.

(If I fix it for them, they'll probably try and keep the darn thing another 20 years!)
