Hi all,

So I have an installer that will soon be installing my 8IPLA with daughter card. I understand this will take 32 timeslots. My building is basically empty this week so this is a perfect time to rearrange things. So to minimize user downtime I am tackling the line card moves myself. Unfortunately, my installer is also on holiday and has not responded to my voicemail so hopefully the learned members of this forum can provide some direction...

I have a NEAX 2000 IPS, 3 PIMs and my understanding is that the IPLA must be installed in PIM 0. So I rearranged a few cards, moved the associated stations and was really proud of myself for freeing up 4 slots.

Then I read the command manual for LAN Interface Assigment. I don't think I get the correlation between my 8IPLA and the PAD No. Does my 8IPLA (first and only) have to go in slot zero of an even numbered PIM? I currently have VM00 in slot 0 PIM 0. Or can it go elsewhere?

Thanks,

Wil

Thanks! Now does the 8IPLA still have to go in either slot 00 or 04? Those cheat sheets work well for you that do this daily but it is hard for me to wrap my brain around it.

Thanks again,

Wil

Pim 00, slot 04 is the plan. However, I have a 24DTA-A in slot 09 and 24PRTA in slot 10 of PIM 00. Will their location cause a problem?

You are one brave fellow. Here is some sample programming. I tried to edit it for you. Make sure you back up your switch before you apply this. Also if you have anything programmed in pim 7, you will have to move it lower i.e. try pim 5. Match this up with the cheat sheet on - They address some more programing related to login codes etc.

Regarding the location of the IPLA card, I would like to correct myself that it depends on the software revision level of your switch (see note 6 below). Regarding your question about the T1 and PRI card in the slots 10 and 11 - you may(see note 5 below).

Here is a note from page 299 of the IPS System Manual (that is the manual you should refer to)

NOTE 5: When using Series 3300 R8 software or later in the system, mount the IP-PAD (PN-8IPLA) card as shown below.
The required slot for the IP-PAD (PN-8IPLA) card depends on the using number of channel in the IP-PAD card. Do not mount any other L/T cards in LT08-LT11 slots (AP cards are mountable in AP08-AP11 slots).
• When using IP-PAD (PN-8IPLA) card with 8-channel
Required slot: LT00/LT04
• When using IP-PAD (PN-8IPLA) card with 16-channel Required slots: LT00/LT04 and one adjoining slot (LT01/LT05)Only AP cards are mountable in LT01/LT05.
• When using IP-PAD (PN-8IPLA) card with 24-channel Required slots: LT00/LT04 and two adjoining slots LT01/LT02, LT05/LT06) Only AP cards are mountable in LT01/LT02, LT05/LT06.
• When using IP-PAD (PN-8IPLA) card with 32-channel Required slots: LT00/LT04 and three adjoining slots (LT01/LT02/LT03, LT05/LT06/LT07) Only AP cards are mountable in LT01/LT02/LT03, LT05/LT06/LT07.

NOTE 6: When using Series 3200 R6.2 software or before in the system, mount the IP-PAD (PN-8IPLA)card in LT01/LT05 slot.

WOW. See that's why I am just clearing the way for the installation. You've gone above and beyond my capabilities. So as I understand what you have provided, I will move all the line cards I have in slots 4,5,6,7 and leave the installation to the Pro. Hopefully he will be here tomorrow.

Thanks again for all the information.

Wil
