Hi guys , took delivery of new 8600 & 2 8692 SF and 48 copper gig blade 8648GTR ,It comes with the ver 4.0.0.0
The passport will not boot the 8648 it tries then gives a handshaking error .
I have upgraded the boot monitor and image files but I do not know how to run the gig blade ver p80j4000.dld.
I have spent hours on nortel web site but its a maze !!
Anyone been threr before ,any help much apreciated.
Thanks in advance

My understanding is that as long as you have the standard p80a and p80b img files as per normal, the p80j dld file just needs to be in flash memory (similar to how the p80p or p80t dld files need to be in flash for bootup of their particular types i.e atm, pos) and the 8648GTR will load those dld files and should be initialized.

The new 8648GTR blades were not supported in version 4.0.0.0 they require code version 4.0.1.0 I think the latest version is 4.0.2.1 so you should probably upgrade to that, I'm using 8648GTR blades with 4.0.2.0 and they seem to be working OK.

Be sure to look through all the release notes when you upgrade from 4.0.0.0, as HungryHouse mentioned there is a .DLD file in 4.x but there are also microcode files that need to be loaded on the FPGA chips of the R series blades themselves. The files that get loaded are those .XSVF files you'll see as part of the code updates. My 8648GTR blades shipped with the right FPGA code but my other R-series blades that came with 4.0.0.0 had their BMC code a revision behind.

The upgrade command is something like:
config diag fpga <code> update <slot> <new-file>
Afterwards the command "show sys info asic" should show the following for each R series blade:
FOQ: 266
DPC: 184
BMC: 776

Also: unless you've got one of the newer "high speed" backplanes you should not use the 8648GTR blades in slot 1 or slot 10, in fact all of the new R series blades will run slower in slots 1 and 10... but the 8648GTR blade notes are very specific about avoiding those slots.

Thanks Anthony , I have requested the later version.
Very helpfull
Cheers
