Hello guys , I had to reboot one of our fully populated 8600,s at the weekend but when coming back blade 1 (8648 TX 10/100)DID not come back happy "all" ports where red as if disabled .
I re-enabled the blade but still all "red" ports , cold booted STILL same .
I cold booted without blade 1 in the chassis then hot plugged the offending blade , hence it come back green .So without the config on that blade I needed to reset 8600 again .did this & came back all looking ok .
However the config for that blade did not take place and I had to manually config all ports for that blade .
The log file showed "read error blade 1 should be 11111 was 111d1"
It has been ok since the manual config but I am concerned there is a hardware fault on this blade, and I need to take it down next month.
Any ideas guys ??
Thanks
Mucca

Sounds like a hardware error on the blade or one of the switch fabric interfaces with that slot. When you say the ports were red do you mean they were red in Device Manager, or that their red (orange) LEDs were on/blinking?

That error in your log might be enough, but if you've got enough extra ports it would probably be worth taking this one out of production then reseating it a couple more times - then if the blade comes up disabled leave it that way until you get a Nortel tech on the phone. They've got priv/shell commands that can help isolate which chips or interfaces are giving errors.

Thanks anthonyanderberg , yes I mean red in device manager ,I did not suspect the switch fabric because I re-booted to the 2nd switch fabric with the same outcome.
This switch is fully populated & this is the only copper blade in the box so I cannot re config to another slot.
I do suspect the hardware though & I will look to have a replacement for the next downtime.
Big thanks for your help

Not sure on the error, but if it happens again try using the source command to load the missing config for the blade without resetting the box.

i.e source /flash/config.cfg

This will load any config differences from the config.cfg file and the running config.
