I have a recurring program where the my 860 won't boot up - when I turn it off and unplug it, and then turn it back on it will display "Running POST" and then the LCD will display "Xerox" and then hang there.

I've cycled power, unplugged interface cables, unplugged power and let it sit, tried a different power outlet, "reset" the main board, "reset" the RAM and done all of it several times.

This had happened to me several times in the past and I have always gotten it to boot up again - but it's random and I never have a good reason or explanation as to why I can get it to boot up again.

This time, however, it won't boot up.

I don't really want to have a tech come; I'm confident enough in my tech skills to pop 'er open if I need to, I just don't know what to do...

thanks

It is most often the power supply that will cause this problem. You should start there.

There are any number of possible causes for the printer hanging, main board, power supply as mentioned above, main board components, even the printhead has resolved this more often than a power supply. Yes calling a xerox tech can be expensive but at least he can order all the possible parts and you wont have to pay for the ones that dont correct the problem. You can contact an ASP through Xerox website and usually they are less expensive but they can also get all the parts that would be needed. Unfortunately this is a problem that most often diags isn't able to identify the failed part.

I do not agree with Marty that the printhead has resolved this more often then a power supply, I stand by my diagnosis. Also if you call a Xerox / ASP tech onsite they can do a back channel trace to find out why it is hanging.
