Hi guys,
Im pulling my hair out on this one. I have a user who is running Windows NT Workstation 4.0. Using Excel 97 and printing to a HP 8550N color laser printer.

The problem is that when he prints from Excel, the printer is flashing a warning, asking for Letter size paper to be inserted into tray 2 and to check the paper guides.

A4 is the prefered paper size, with A3 as an alternate. Letter is not used in this company.

I have gone through all the paper size options and they are all set correctly at A4, I have deleted and re-added the printer and still no success. I can print from Word and any other application without a problem at all.

I have logged onto the machine as myself and setup the printer and I have the same issue. I have deleted and re-created the users profile and I still have the same issue.

As I work around, I have advised the user to hit the 'GO' button on the printer. But I really do need to provide a proper solutiuon.

I am reluctant to re-build the computer as he has many custom applications loaded.

Other users in his area have no trouble printing to this particular printer.

Any help would be appreciated!

thanks

The printer is connected via a print server, therefore I would assume the driver to be coming from the print server? I will give it a shot but I dont like my chances.

Well, whatever you do, dont rebuild his computer over a printer issue! LOL
The driver may be loaded on the server but it needs to be installed on the workstation too. And the port set to the print server\printer name. Check settings on a working machine.

I mean delete mapped printer then remove the driver from the local machine and the remap the printer

Thanks for all the sugestions, in the end I modified the setup on the printer itself to force Letter jobs to be printed to A4!
Unfortunately I couldnt spend too much time on the users computer troublshooting and attempting fixes as he was too busy.

What a drag, I hear that all the time. People sounding the alarm and having a tizzy about a problem and I ask to borrow their workstation to take a look at the problem and they are toooooo busy! Like I'm gonna stand around and wait for them.
"Oh, well" I say,"if it isnt an emergency for you, it isnt for me either"
Pardon my rant.
