I have an 855 (PO Acknowledgement) that I send to my customer. I now want to also send him some notes from my users within this 855. Can I simply add a MSG segment to my 855? If so, what is the total number of characters allowed for each MSG segment? Where should the MSG segment be within my 855 document?

Thanks,

Bob

You can add a msg segment if the structure allows it. I don't have the implementation guide in front of me so I can't give you specifics. If it does allow for the msg, probably 264 bytes.

Depending on the version used, this may be called MSG (4010 version) or MTX (5010 version) segment. In both cases, MSG or MTX resides within the N9 loop. It exists both at the 855 header and line (PO1) levels. In version 4010 the MSG segment. The text in 4010 is 264 characters (MSG_01_933). In 5010 it is actually 2 fields in the MTX (MTX_02_1551 / MTX_03_1551) each 4096 characters long.
