Will a Definity 8500 series ISDN set work on a Merlin Legend, on an MLX card? I know that the MLX sets are ISDN as well, do I was tthinking that the 8500 series phones may just work.
Brian is essentially correct--other BRI sets (U) will connect to an MLX port, and will technically work, but nothing will work 'right'... no regular Legend features work correctly, no ability to program buttons other than line appearances, no ability to transfer, hold, etc.
I've actually been able to place and receive internal and external calls, just couldn't do anything with them once they were established--other than hang up. I think the volume keys worked, too. It was an ATT set, but I can't tell you the model because it's AWOL at the moment...
Back in the days when I was with Lucent, I'm real sure that set, 8510, is one I got a call from a sales person on (who had sold a TON of them to this one LEGEND CUSTOMER) and when I tested in my lab, it would not talk. As I recall, I could hear or not be heard or vice versa....
Either way, just not supposed to work.
How she sold them to a LEGEND customer I will never know.
Well shoot, now the ol curiosity is going. I am going to have to plug an MLX phone, into a definity, where I would normally plug in the 8510, and see what happens.
Years ago I have plugged in ISDN 8510/7506 on Merlin II, Legend. On merlin II, and Legend it powered up and worked, but the display didn't show internal or external ID, only the call timer worked. Button designation was also different. The Legend procesoor recognized the 8510 as a ISDM Modem.
I'm note sure what will happen on Magix? I no longer have a 8510 to try.
