850 jams from 2nd tray only

My 850DP picks up the paper from the 2nd tray and begins feed, but paper stops in the rollers right below the maintenance tray and is cleared by opening the front cover, removing the sheet and closing cover. This will repeat as many times as you want to try it. Paper handling through the main tray is normal. I've cleaned and looked for obstructions but don't see anything that should be causing this. No other error codes are mentioned. Any ideas?

I always thought that the feed rollers were the culprit, but have discovered that it is the guide that caused the problems. Although, have you checked the solonoid at the top right above the fan? Put tape on the flapper, it may be sticking. And,,,you could clean/replace the p/u roller.

I would look very carefully at the tray itself. Look at the hinges and make sure one or both are not broken. also make sure the paper size plug is in the right slot (upper) and the rest are open. Last but not least make sure the rear stop is in place and not letting the paper slide back. Later
