Hi

I have a Tek 840DN. With the exception of a few stripes on the test page, it printed ok until I left it on over night one night.

When I turn it on, the printer tries to print a stripe test "Cleaning Page", If I try to let it print from the paper tray, it prints fine but stops, and actually rolls the paper back a little at the exit shoot. I also notice that it is moving slower. The printer use to run faster as the paper ejected. Since it started with the problem, it ejects slower and the machine doesn't . . . sort of kick in, you know make more noise like it's running a little faster.

Anyhow, I looked everywhere for a jam and could not find anything. Oh, and the display indicates that there is a jam when there isn't, except for the paper sticking half way out of the exit shoot.

I tried to load the paper through the front door "alternate paper feed", and this time the paper would go all the way through and not stop at the paper shoot, but it still runs slower and the display indicates a jam.

Each time I'd remove the paper, open and close the doors to reset the printer, and then it would print another test page. I can't get it out of the "Cleaning Page" Cycle.

This problem progressively got worst. I recall when I first started having this problem, I was at least able to get past the test page, and it was happening on the printouts.

I believe I've covered everything. I have the side covers off right now, and I've inspected below the control panel and behind the shinny chrome plate for paper jams. All the little paper path switches appear to be working.

I currently can't get past the "Cleaning Page" display screen so I can't check for any error codes. I do recall there was some in there from before I got the printer.

Well, I finally figured it out on my own. I found a little paper path switch that is hidden behind the shinny plate in front. It was bent, or rather it was not fully seated in it's supports. It is mounted on a little circuit board attached to the printer with one screw. I used a paper clip and a little pressure and it popped back into the little supports. Now it pivots ok, and it prints ok.

This may have been there for a long time, I don't know. All I know is it now works.

If anyone is having the same problem, I can take pictures if it would help.

SpaceBuckaroo, Boy, thanks for your report on this. I haven't had such a problem but if it does come up I'm a little smarter about it now thanks to you.

Thanks.

That sensor is called the Preheater/drum exit sensor. I had a similiar problem with an 850 and mine supports on the sensor were broken. Although i'm still having more problems. I ws told to reseat all Dims and Sims and then do a NVRAM reset at last resort. ----Make sure to print a config reort before doing the reset. I havent done the NVRAM reset but just got another error pointing to the Process motor----I'll update when I replace that---Damn this printer is Hell in and of itself disguised!!!
