On a HP Vectra VE with a 82371AB/EB IDE controller.

I have a 20GB drive with a CDROM and a CD-RW.

With the HDD on first channel and the 2 CD's on 2nd channel no cd's show up and have an exclamation on the secondary channel. Device manager shows 1 CD.

With the HDD on first channel and either CD on 2nd channel by itself everything works fine.

With the HDD and either CD on first channel windows hangs before it finishes loading.

CMOS always detects all devices correctly.
Have swapped CD-ROM, CD-RW and IDE cables.

I have got it working once or twice but its reeeeally slow to copy a CD.

Any Ideas???

There is a disk [floppy or CD] that comes with motherboards and has to be installed in Windows to identify/allow access to the controllers properly.

If you don't have that disk, the drivers should be available at HP. Intel may also have them, that's their chipset.
