I recently setup my pc to connect to new 806 router to connect to cable modem. I had some problems at first with ZoneAlarm (another story) but now it works fine. When I first got the router I connected via com2 with console cable. Was able to get to the CLI and look around no problem. Didn't make any changes or setup password. Then I ran their web based router config tool, set it up for "cable modem", everything worked fine, browsed and pinged, then went to bed. Next day I get home from work, boot it all up, connect to the internet, then try to connect to the router via console com2. Get this wacky "rommon 1>" prompt. Type "?" and see the limited commands, thinking "what happened?" So I disconnect from the router/console, put my cable modem in standby, reboot the router then connect back via console, now get my CLI Cisco IOS prompt, put cable modem back online, get connected to internet no problem and was able to "debug ip packet" and see that in action. Yes, I know what ROM Monitor is but any ideas why it went to rommon at all?
