Hi Guys

we manage a Nortel L3 switch an Ethernet routing switch 8010to be precise .We actively monitor the ports by snmp and last week lost connectivity to port 5 on blade 10 . I checked the logs and seen the following .We have had to plug into a diferent port but I was wondering if anybody could shed light on the below line 4. If there any way to bring the port back up as I tried reenabling it via device manager but it still remains in operational state of Down.

thanks in advance

This means that the CP-limit was triggered and shutdown the port - 10318 broadcasts per second might indicate a layer two loop so your first task should be to make sure there hasn't been any switch-to-switch links made that your design doesn't account for via spanning tree.

I had thought ports could be re-set after a CP-limit trigger by disabling and re-enabling the port... try using the command line if device manager interface doesn't work.

If you're absolutely sure that that level of traffic was valid and not created by a layer-2 loop CP-limit can be disabled or the threshold can be raised... but its not advised.

thanks for that anthonyanderberg ,

I will consult with the customer this Switch is in a data Centre with 40 mixed Servers attached , so the rogue Server may find a while to isolate ff the spanning tree dosen't appear to be a problem

You are correct in the shut/no shut option I just forgot there was no cable attached hence the operational state of down.

I ll update in a few days.

Thakns again for your speedy and relevant reply.

I seem to recall someone writing into this group in December who had installed some kind of server NIC teaming software that was causing layer 2 loops - might be something to look for.
