I was told by my CSR that I cannot dial outbound 800 numbers on the new PRI we just installed...is this true or is he mis-informed?

If it's a long distance PRI you won't be able to call out using it.

You would need to change your ARS tables to choose your local line pool

Here is a simplefied list of categories.

When this PRI was ordered, someone specified the category - otherwise, the "purpose", which in turn placed it in a billing category.

If the PRI was ordered from the part of ATT that used to be "SBC the Local Exchange Carrier" - then not only could you dial Toll Free numbers, but you could dial a PIC Code (like "1010222") and MCI/Verizon would handle the call.

If you ordered this PRI as a "cost savings on Long Distance", then figure all calls are going to be billed per minute - probably at a good rate too.

What rate would you expect to pay for using this PRI for placing toll free calls? A good rate for calling toll free is "free"

Long distance is a weird case where the carrier for the call is determined by whom you are calling. In other cases the carrier is determined by your PIC.

As mentioned above, if you have a PRI from AT&T Long Distance (is this now called AT&T Long Lines again?) there is no access tandem to connect you to any other carrier.

If you have a PRI from AT&T LEC then there is an access tandem that can connect you to any LD carrier (by an SS7 database lookup, or by using a 1010XXX PIC).

The reason that the 800 calls need to go out on a local trunk is because if it goes out on a long distance trunk, then U are charged for the call and the 800 provided is charged, so double billing takes place, and that is forbidden by the FCC.
